Under the leadership of the Alumni Council, American Friends support development and implementation of plans to engage US alumni of the AvH, including the Humboldtians on Campus Program, and to strengthen volunteer opportunities for Humboldtians to include local, regional, and national events, as well as online networking and social media opportunities.

American Friends seeks to engage alumni of the AvH and explores key issues related to the Internationalization of Research, and the Role of Science in Policy and Society.

American Friends plans and executes a Triennial Meeting of the German Chancellor Fellows In close cooperation with the AvH and a Steering Committee of US alumni.

 

American Friends Research Funding Opportunity for Humboldtians:

Fellowship for Scholars in Classics-Related Fields

William M. Calder III Fellowship

  • Eligibility: The fellowship is intended to complement fellowship support from the AvH; it is awarded annually to an AvH Feodor Lynen Fellow (to go to the United States) and/or an AvH Humboldt Research Fellow (to go to Germany) for a research project related to classical antiquity or to its reception in medieval and modern times
  • Fellowship Duration: Up to 12 months
  • This fellowship is made possible through a generous gift from Humboldtian Prof. William M. Calder III
