What does Strata mean?

Taken from geology, “strata” is meant to evoke Alexander von Humboldt’s life-long career in the natural sciences and also to convey the rich and varied experiences that Humboldtians have during their research abroad. Layers also signify how Humboldtians continue to build upon their knowledge base. Lastly, the name indicates the cohesiveness of the 26,000 Humboldtians world-wide resulting from their common experience with Germany.
