The March for Science is scheduled for 22 April 2017, in Washington, D.C., with satellite events planned for many cities across the world, including in 14 cities in Germany.
American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AFAvH) embraces the call for public support of science manifest in the individuals and organizations participating in the March for Science. As reflected in our mission, vision, and goals, AFAvH affirms the value of science to society. Peer-reviewed evidence and scientific method expand our understanding of the world we live in and thus can beneficially inform and help shape policy and regulations in the public interest. We support sustained federal funding for basic and applied research. We celebrate the contributions of international scientific cooperation, dialogue, and collaboration. The personal and professional experiences of the Humboldt alumni in the United States with the international scientific community are testimony to the value of engaging the best talent from a broad variety of perspectives to propel discovery, improve understanding of the world around us, and advance the common good. We are committed to communicating to the public the benefits of international scientific partnerships and collaboration for society at large, both in the United States and around the world.
AFAvH welcomes and encourages active engagement by scientists with the public about their passion for science and its benefit to the common good, including the more than 5,000 scholars and scientists who comprise the US Humboldt alumni network. We stand with the members of the Humboldt alumni network and others who choose to participate in the March for Science as individuals or through their professional associations and institutions.
